How Do We Relate to the State? Public Panel Graphic Notes

Illustrated graphic notes from the public panel that kicked off How Do We Relate to the State?, a two-day virtual convening hosted by Interrupting Criminalization that took place in late September 2023, gathering several hundred organizers from across Turtle Island and around the world to envision pathways to abolitionist futures. This public event picked up threads of ongoing conversations among abolitionist organizers regarding the political processes, practices, and institutions that will bring us closer to visions of safer, thriving, and liberatory communities in which everyone’s needs are met without surveillance, policing, or punishment. The graphic notes below summarize contributions and provocations from Ruth Wilson Gilmore, Paula X. Rojas, Beth Richie, Jacinta Gonzalez, and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson.
