Communiversity 2026 Session
Herbs and the Nervous System
Facilitated by Mari Vial-Golden
October 17
11 AM to 2:30 PM
About This Session
Come learn about the unique relationship between herbs and the nervous system! We’ll first gather a basic understanding of the functions of the nervous system while honoring the “fight or flight” response as our bodies attempt at keeping us safe from the oppressive and violent systems we live under. We’ll then learn ways of lovingly incorporating herbs for gentle nervous system support to help sustain us and build resilience as we continue the struggle towards collective liberation. Together we will make herbal infused honeys and vinegars and participants will all leave with their own handcrafted herbal blends, and the basic knowledge to continue deepening these relationships with herbs on their own.
About Mari Vial-Golden
This workshop is facilitated by Mari Vial-Golden, a community herbalist, organizer and theater artist based in Brooklyn, NY.
Raised by herbalists and care workers, Mari has been building relationships with plants since childhood and deepening her own herbalism practice over the last 7 years with a disability justice and healing justice framework rooted in firsthand experience navigating chronic health struggles.
Mari grows herbs in BK and shares homemade herbal remedies with community members via mutual aid efforts, especially as aftercare support for folks navigating oppressive systems and state violence. Mari's approach to herbalism centers care and collective healing as an essential part of movement work.
