From Bars to Books: Deconstructing Modern Rap, Reconstructing Reality

Facilitated by Drewlina J

November 8

11 AM to 4 PM

[break: 12:30 to 1 PM]

Capacity: 25 participants

What do your favorite rap lyrics really mean?

Rap is more than noise—it’s a notebook, a mirror, a map. In this workshop, we’re flipping the script. We’re coming home to the music that raised us and made us—and breaking it down, bar by bar.

From the energy of drill to slow jams, from bold rap girlies to the boom bap, we’ll look at what’s being said, how it’s being said, and why it hits the way it does. We’ll talk flow. We’ll talk culture. We’ll talk truth.

Through three parts—The Anatomy of a Bar, The Beat Behind the Bars, and Rewriting the Soundtrack—you’ll learn to hear beyond the hype, write your own truth, and remix the narrative.

This isn’t class as usual. This is healing work. It’s rhythm as resistance. It’s reclaiming our stories and denying their rhetoric.

Bring your favorite songs, your go-to playlists, and your loudest thoughts. We’re turning bars into something that sets us free.
