[break: 12:30 to 1 PM]
Two-session workshop
This two-part, practice-based skill-building course is for anyone looking to build skills to address harm and violence without relying on punishment or the criminal legal system. Drawing from transformative justice (TJ), community accountability (CA), and related movements, participants will practice using new tools and work through scenarios together.
Day 1 covers the foundations of TJ, including core values, lineages, distinctions from punishment, as well as tools for supporting survivors of violence, including safety planning and risk assessment.
Day 2 focuses on working with people who've caused harm, Including exploring nonviolent communication, accountability frameworks, and the role of shame. We will also examine TJ at the community level and beyond, including mutual aid and organizational processes.
Each session includes storytelling, skill-sharing, scenario practice, and group discussion.
Goals:
Learn practical skills for addressing harm without calling the cops.
Build confidence in supporting survivors and working with people who caused harm.
Grow a deeper understanding of the history and values behind TJ.
Strengthen collective approaches to healing and accountability.
